The Leftovers

I was so busy talking about running 24 miles and being boo-ed yesterday, that I forgot to mention a couple things about the weekend.

1.  The first DVR cuts of the season are in.

I tried really hard to like this show. I love Will Arnett. I love Christina Applegate. But man, I cannot identify with these characters. Maybe it’s more for parents? Or people without cold, black hearts? Because I cannot get with all the baby stuff. Raising Hope is way more my style. (Hubs and I love Raising Hope.)

Next up (sorry, Michelle):

I love Elisha Cuthbert but I can’t do it. Even Damon Wayans Jr. is pretty charming. But for the love of God…

I really don’t know what happened there either because I loved Casey Wilson on SNL. After last week’s episode when her and her mother were singing their problems to one another, I wanted to poke my eyes out. Instead, I just deleted it from the DVR. It was a close call, though.

2. On the awesome TV front, I love that The Walking Dead is finally back.

I know a lot of you don’t like horror or zombies, but if you do, this is seriously an amazing TV show. So well done and well acted.

3. We watched Take Me Home Tonight.

I loved this movie. So cute and funny, plus I have a total nerd crush on Topher Grace.

4. After the 24 miles on Saturday, hubs and I met up with some friends to see The Thing.

Hubs was acting like a 13-year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert for this movie. So we hit up an afternoon showing as to not interfere with my our drinking plans that night. If you don’t already know, this movie is a prequel to The Thing with Kurt Russell made in 1982. I don’t think it makes sense that the movie is named the same thing since it’s not a remake, but whatever.

The movie did really well linking up to the first movie so the writing was impressive. Hubs liked the movie a lot. I thought it was ok. The creature effects were so over-done that they were more ridiculous than scary and I think that killed a lot of the tension for me. But, if you’re a fan of the first one, you’ll probably like this one.

5. That night, we went downtown so I could properly hydrate after my 24 miles.

That one on the right was called a Cream Pie. Sooo delicious. We met up with Lisa who was already downtown for a birthday party. Hubs did some hooping and we did our picture-taking thang.

We had a fun night. Probably too much fun because I didn’t wake up until 11:30 the next morning. Smile

Anyone else watching The Walking Dead or do you hate zombies?  (I love zombie everything. And they can give me horrible nightmares, but I just can’t quit them.)

TV Tuesday

I decided to do my tempo run last night instead of tonight. It wasn’t anything different than usual except I listened to music. I haven’t listened to music on a run since marathon training started. I usually watch TV or listen to myself cry until it’s over. My run looked like this:

Mile Pace Incline
1 10:00 .5
2 9:42 .5
3 9:31 .5
4 9:23 .5
Special “Meeting” Slow 0
Walk of shame back to the treadmill   0
5 9:14 .5

Total miles: 5.1

I ran 1 more mile after my “meeting.” Are you happy, Melissa? I wasn’t even going to put the details of my run in this post but I was kinda proud I got back on the treadmill when I usually walk out the  front door with my head down in shame.

I keep telling myself I’ll increase the incline and I never do. I was going to do another cool down mile but my right knee was feeling weird, so I stopped. I ran last night so I could go back to Crossfit tonight with my old trainer. We’ll see how that goes.

I haven’t done a TV Tuesday in forever. But since I’ve been watching a massive amount of TV lately, it seems appropriate. Hubs and I just finished season 1 of Spartacus Blood and Sand which I LOVED.

I loved it more than Game of Thrones. I mean, I know GoT is technically a better show, but I couldn’t wait to see the next episode with Spartacus and that was not the case with GoT.

Now, we’re almost done with Spartacus Gods of the Arena.

There’s only 6 episodes and Netflix Streaming is finally becoming useful with 3 of those episodes. Because it would be too much for Netflix Streaming to have all 6 episodes. People might actually like the service and want to pay for it then.

I like Gods of the Arena but not as much as Blood and Sand. It’s the story before Spartacus, so there’s no Spartacus. I miss him. 😦 Also, the guy that’s Champion in this one looks like a confused Colin Farrell.

I do not like you!

Season 2 of Spartacus is filming with a new actor as the lead. I don’t know how I’ll feel without Andy Whitfield playing the lead. This is the new guy.

Hubs has assured me that I will want him to be one of my future husbands just like the last Spartacus, but I don’t know about that. I already think his left ear is too far away from his body, so I can’t imagine things getting better for him.

Good thing the fall TV season is starting, because I was looking for more ways to kill time and not get anything productive done. Welcome to my DVR:

And because we don’t sit on our butts enough and watch TV, we went to a movie over the weekend too.

Drive was really good. It had an 80’s feel to it but in a good way. There were a couple scenes that were a little long and uncomfortable between a few of the characters but other than that, I liked it.

What new shows are you watching this season? (I’m trying out Ringer, Secret Circle, and Happy Endings if I can figure out when that’s on.)

P.S. Thanks for all the compliments on my dress yesterday! I can’t take credit for it. It was a Christmas present from hubs last year.

TV Tuesday

(last night’s) Workout:  Chest, shoulders, and triceps with the personal trainer.

then… Marathon Training:  3 sets of 800, 600, 400 on treadmill. (400 meter jogs in between sets at a 10:00 pace).

That training run was supposed to happen this morning, but I really didn’t want to wake up early. So, I doubled up my workouts and did it last night.

I think my jogs between sets were supposed to be half as long, so I extended a few of the 600’s and 400’s. I may have to up the pace next time because I wasn’t wiped out at the end. Am I supposed to be? I’ve never done a workout like this before and had to email my marathon training group to find out the paces for each distance.

Can I just tell you how much I love treadmills? I get air conditioning and no humidity, I don’t have to monitor my pace every 5 seconds, bugs don’t dive-bomb my face, and I get to watch TV. I don’t understand all the treadmill haters out there. It’s so easy.

Now on to my favorite past time. I haven’t done a TV Tuesday in awhile, so today I bring you:

If you aren’t watching this show, you should be. It’s ridiculous and funny and stupid. The show is a half hour comedy about 3 roommates who also work together. It’s like The Office but with an It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia sense of humor. The humor is shocking at times, which I guess explains why it’s on at 10pm on Comedy Central.

If you don’t have cable, you should watch it illegally or through your neighbor’s window at night. If you don’t like potty humor, you may want to steer clear. But then again, if you don’t like potty humor, you’re probably not reading my blog.

Congrats Carolina and Michelle! Send me an email at eatwatchrun@gmail.com and I’ll get you hooked up. 🙂

What new show have you been loving lately? Besides Workaholics, I’ve been loving Bob’s Burgers (a new Sunday night Fox cartoon) and Tosh.O. (not new…but new to me).

Top 10 Reasons You Should Watch Cougar Town

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a TV Tuesday post and last night’s episode of Cougar Town has inpired me! If you are not already watching this show, for the love of all things holy, start watching it. It is one of the best shows on TV right now.

Here are just 10 of the reasons why you should check it out:

1. It’s consistently hilarious. I laugh out loud at every episode.

2. The title has nothing to do with the show. (It’s more like a grown-up Friends.) Producers almost changed the show’s name for the 2nd season. Instead, they make fun of the name before every show’s title. (It changes every week.)

3. It’s only a half hour long. With DVR fast-forwarding, that’s 22 short minutes of your week. You have time for this!

4. It’s for everyone, not just women. My hubs loves this show even though he strongly resisted it at first.

5. You can make a drinking game out of it. Drink everytime Courtney Cox doesn’t have a glass of wine in the scene. (Oh, and come over to my house anytime you want to play this. Mandatory game requirement.)

[I included links to Youtube in case the embedded videos don’t work for you.]

6.  The Grayson Remix

7.  The Truth Gun Shoot Out

8.  The Drunken Photo Montage

9. Breakfast Wine

10.  Ask for Carol, no sex stuff. PENNY CAN!

Honorable mention (just for Michelle): Busy Phillips

You can watch last night’s episode here, or you can stayed tuned after Modern Family tomorrow and watch at 9:30 on ABC. That’s Eastern time folks. Oddly enough, I am not being paid for this post.

Do you watch Cougar Town?
Do you suck all the toppings of a Twix bar and eat the cookie last?
(I know that last question has nothing to do with this post, but I noticed this week that I do that everytime.)

TV Tuesday

Workout: Crossfit (40 min?) I wasn’t really paying attention to time. <— loser

Today I thought I would tell you all about the new show I’m watching that I love –  Being Human.

This one is on the Syfy network and is an American remake of the British show of the same name. I have friends that like the British version and have recommended it to me, but I decided to watch the American one since it just premiered and I don’t have to watch four seasons to catch up.

Alright. This is the plot. And I’m serious when I tell you this.

You can’t make this stuff up.

It’s about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost…who are roommates.

being-human-syfy-poster-550x715

And no. It’s not a comedy.

Although it does have some humor, it’s mainly a drama.

The show follows each of the characters and how they deal with what they are, how they became monsters, and how they deal with being friends with one another. (If you know folklore (is it folklore?), vampires and werewolves are enemies.)

The ghost struggles with finding out who killed her, the werewolf struggles with hating what he is, and the vampire struggles with trying to lead a “normal” life (i.e. not kill anyone).

The show has great character actors too, like Mark Pellegrino.

Mark Pellegrino

That dude is in everything – Jacob in Lost, the devil in Supernatural, Rita’s ex-husband on Dexter. Apparently he was also in The Number 23. (Don’t watch that movie though, trust me.)

Being Human is joining my Monday night line-up along with House and Chuck. And last night, the hubs decided to watch Being Human first out of the three. (We usually always pick Chuck.)

So try it out if you have the SyFy channel or catch an episode online HERE.

I’ve only seen 3 or 4 episodes, so I can’t declare it a favorite yet. But I’m about 2 episodes away from being nerdy enough to wear this shirt in public.

Has anyone else seen this show yet? What do you think? If you watch it for the first time soon, let me know what you thought!

I Hate Your Favorite TV Show

You guessed it, it’s TV Tuesday!

Last time, I posted my 5 favorite shows of all time. Since then I’ve thought of a billion more that I loved that could have made the list, like Weeds, Pushing Daisies, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (unless you’ve seen this series, you may not speak ill of it!), Lost (the first season only), Moonlighting, X-Files, and Soap.

Does anyone remember Soap with Billy Crystal? I haven’t seen it in forever but I remember thinking it was hilarious.

Something tells me that picture probably doesn’t sell it for you.

Today, I’m going to list my LEAST favorite shows.

Let me preface this by saying, almost every blog I read out there LOVES these shows. My closest friends LOVE these shows. So please don’t hate me and stop reading my blog forever. Remember… I still love you and read all your blogs even though you watch crappy TV. 😉

Criminal Minds

Ok, I admit, I’m not a fan of the crime drama genre in general. (Drama genre! Haha, rhymes are fun.)  However, I can recognize when one is good. I’ve seen several episodes of CSI (the original) and have liked it but it never intrigued me enough to keep watching. Criminal Minds is on a whole.nudder.level.

I watched an episode during a Criminal Minds-a-thon one day and let me just say that the acting and the writing are terrible. I tried to find the actual episode I watched online, but they all sound exactly the same. Kinda like this:

“The team tries to identify a serial killer based on a shaky profile with devastating consequences.”

Well, if that doesn’t help you identify the episode where they were all trapped on a bus with a gunman, I don’t know what does.

Oh, and if you and 10 others are trapped on a bus with one gunman standing in the middle of all of you, while sobbing, and scratching his head with the hand he’s holding the gun with – I’m pretty sure you can ambush him and grab his gun. I should write these things. I could have shaved 30 minutes off that storyline.

Why are 2 of them smiling inside the mind of a serial killer?

 The Bachelor

Oh I can hear the rumbling now. Blogland loves this show. My best friend loves this show. I’m not a fan of reality TV in general, but this show is like my bunny’s litter box after a long day at work.

Poopy.

People love it since it’s been on the air for 85 years and makes every magazine cover know to man.

Why 20 women would want to complete for one d-bag’s love, and cry when they don’t make the cut after knowing the guy for all of a week is a mystery to me.

Alright, he is pretty cute. I’ll give you that.

 Two and a Half Men

I will watch Hot Shots over and over for my Charlie Sheen/Jon Cryer fix, thank you.

At ease!

 Glee

Let the rioting begin! I’m pretty sure I’ve seen 15 episodes of Glee. I even DVRed the one after the Super Bowl (but haven’t watched it yet). I like Thriller. So, I’ll give that episode a shot.

I can see this show is cute. But…it’s the singing. I can’t stand it. If the show had no singing at all, I would like it. I figure the singing won’t stop anytime soon since the show is actually called Glee. And also, how do they all afford different, matching outfits at the end of each show? I work full time and I can’t buy all that stuff.

Also, Rachel has about the most annoying character I’ve ever seen.

Yes, Finn. I expect you to stop playing football at school and spend all your time fawning over me. If you can’t do that, then we must break up. That is how normal relationships work.

And with that, I’ll probably watch Glee tonight.

 Jersey Shore

Ok, I’ve never seen an episode of this show. And I never will. But this is my blog and I can put it on my list if I want to!

Best thing to come out of Jersey Shore:  SNL’s impression of Snooki.

Honorable mention: The Cleveland Show (This show took a trip to Terrible Town.)

Do you agree or disagree with my list? I know you Bachelor/Jersey Shore lovers will have something to say! What are your least favorite shows?

TV Tuesday!

I love my DVR. Had they been invented before I met my husband, I might be married to an electronic device and have little remote control babies running around the house.

Most of the shows that I record on the DVR are shows that the hubs and I watch together. So, that means…no sneaking a peek! We wait until we both can watch at the same time. So, what’s a girl to do when she’s busting out a treadmill run and she needs to get her TV fix without watching the coveted husband/wife only shows?

I’ll tell you what.

A bunch of crap TV watching.

I have watched some truly terrible shows lately (I’m looking at you CW) and it’s given me new found appreciation for the good ones. So, I thought with that, I will start “TV Tuesday.”

Today, I will list my top 5 favorite TV shows of all time (and in no particular order).

Veronica Mars:

I would have never watched this show if it wasn’t for Michelle. Thanks, Michelle! I was instantly hooked. Of course, I blamed her for making me love it when it went off the air too.

If you haven’t heard of this one, it stars Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars, a high school student whose dad is a private investigator. She helps her dad solve stand-alone cases each episode while also working to solve the more complex season-long mystery. This show lasted 3 seasons and they weren’t sure if they were going to get a fourth…so they ended it on the usual cliffhanger in hopes of renewal. They didn’t get it. But it’s still worth watching even with the cliffhanger at the end of Season 3.

This show has great drama and comedy. It is so cleverly written it’s ridiculous. This is one of those shows I had to watch on live TV because I couldn’t wait to watch it without commercials on the DVR.  (Check out my celebs page for a pic of me and Kristen Bell.)

Dexter:

The storyline. The acting. It’s insane. The show is based off of the books of the same title. I’ve never read them but heard the first book was identical to the first season and then the series strays. It’s about Dexter, a blood splatter analyst with the police department who also happens to be a serial killer. The show has a season long mystery to solve as Dexter tries to balance work life, family life, and serial killing life without getting caught. Trust me. You will root for the serial killer in this show.

Each episode is like a mini-movie and it’s so engrossing that you just want to watch the next episode right away. The opening credits of this show alone is so good it won an Emmy.  Season 6 of this one should be starting in September.

By the way, I get Showtime for 3 months of the year only…just for this show.

Supernatural:

Don’t knock this one till you’ve tried it. This show has a great story. And the story builds each season. It’s amazing how they intertwine the characters and bring back characters from previous shows/seasons. This one stars Jensen Ackles (I used to watch him on Days of our Lives!) and Jared Padaleki as (hot) brothers who are (hot) demon hunters. They spend each season trying to fight some big bad evil all while looking hot.

The best part of this show is that it’s not afraid to make fun of itself or its actors. There’s drama, a lot more comedy than you would think, and sometimes it’s a little creepy too. You don’t have to start from the beginning to watch this one either, which is the nice part. But it helps if you do.

Battlestar Galactica (the new one):

This one is based on the original series and started as a mini-series. Without getting too confusing , it’s about approximately 50,000 human survivors aboard a spacecraft trying to find Earth after their population had been attacked and depleted by Cylons (basically, robots.)

This is hands down one of the best written shows, EVER.  Each season got better and better and the series finale blew me away. It has great drama and great action and the characters keep you guessing. (Check out my Celebs page for pictures of me and a crap ton of the cast < —– nerd.)

Dead Like Me:

Dead Like Me only lasted 2 seasons, but it was funny and touching and quirky. It’s about Georgia, a girl that was killed by a toilet seat that fell from a spacecraft (yeah, go with me on this). After she died, she was chosen to be a reaper. The show follows her and how she has to deal with her new life reaping other people and how she deals with the family that she left behind.  (Check out my Celebs page to see a pic of me and Ellen Muth, who starred as Georgia.)

Honorable mentions:  True Blood ( I love the books AND the show) and Nip/Tuck. Only the first 2-3 seasons for Nip/Tuck, they went downhill after that but I still liked it. That show is a train wreck and you CANNOT look away.

Most of these shows/seasons are already on DVD, so check them out!

By the way, please still like me when I bust out my list of least favorite shows. Because trust me, they are shows that are LOVED by everyone else. I will still love you if you still love me.  Promise.

What are your favorite TV shows of all time?
