TV Tuesday

I decided to do my tempo run last night instead of tonight. It wasn’t anything different than usual except I listened to music. I haven’t listened to music on a run since marathon training started. I usually watch TV or listen to myself cry until it’s over. My run looked like this:

Mile Pace Incline
1 10:00 .5
2 9:42 .5
3 9:31 .5
4 9:23 .5
Special “Meeting” Slow 0
Walk of shame back to the treadmill   0
5 9:14 .5

Total miles: 5.1

I ran 1 more mile after my “meeting.” Are you happy, Melissa? I wasn’t even going to put the details of my run in this post but I was kinda proud I got back on the treadmill when I usually walk out the  front door with my head down in shame.

I keep telling myself I’ll increase the incline and I never do. I was going to do another cool down mile but my right knee was feeling weird, so I stopped. I ran last night so I could go back to Crossfit tonight with my old trainer. We’ll see how that goes.

I haven’t done a TV Tuesday in forever. But since I’ve been watching a massive amount of TV lately, it seems appropriate. Hubs and I just finished season 1 of Spartacus Blood and Sand which I LOVED.

I loved it more than Game of Thrones. I mean, I know GoT is technically a better show, but I couldn’t wait to see the next episode with Spartacus and that was not the case with GoT.

Now, we’re almost done with Spartacus Gods of the Arena.

There’s only 6 episodes and Netflix Streaming is finally becoming useful with 3 of those episodes. Because it would be too much for Netflix Streaming to have all 6 episodes. People might actually like the service and want to pay for it then.

I like Gods of the Arena but not as much as Blood and Sand. It’s the story before Spartacus, so there’s no Spartacus. I miss him. 😦 Also, the guy that’s Champion in this one looks like a confused Colin Farrell.

I do not like you!

Season 2 of Spartacus is filming with a new actor as the lead. I don’t know how I’ll feel without Andy Whitfield playing the lead. This is the new guy.

Hubs has assured me that I will want him to be one of my future husbands just like the last Spartacus, but I don’t know about that. I already think his left ear is too far away from his body, so I can’t imagine things getting better for him.

Good thing the fall TV season is starting, because I was looking for more ways to kill time and not get anything productive done. Welcome to my DVR:

And because we don’t sit on our butts enough and watch TV, we went to a movie over the weekend too.

Drive was really good. It had an 80’s feel to it but in a good way. There were a couple scenes that were a little long and uncomfortable between a few of the characters but other than that, I liked it.

What new shows are you watching this season? (I’m trying out Ringer, Secret Circle, and Happy Endings if I can figure out when that’s on.)

P.S. Thanks for all the compliments on my dress yesterday! I can’t take credit for it. It was a Christmas present from hubs last year.

There Will Be Running

Even with all the eating and drinking over the weekend, I did manage to work out on Monday with the personal trainer. It was really similar to this Fireman workout. It’s been awhile since I’ve done a crazy hard workout and I can definitely tell I’ve lost strength since I haven’t been seeing my Crossfit trainer. 😦

This workout kicked my butt and now my forearms are so sore from lifting the 150lb tire that it hurts to drive. I’m going to need something to keep my mind off the pain when I’m in the car.

That should do it.

Monday night, I was desperate for some girl shopping. So I headed out to the Premium Outlets with my friend, Klainie. I don’t have a recent picture of her, so here’s one from my Mexican themed birthday party a couple years ago.

And there was the hub’s 80s themed birthday party a few years before that.

It’s weird, but we wore our hair just like that when we went out shopping on Monday.

I bought a few things at not-so-outlet prices, including a dress from Gap that I wore yesterday ($50):

A watch from NY and Company for 40% off ($16):

(I used to hate big watches, but I love them now. Big watch lovers unite!)

And a necklace from Charlotte Russe ($10) that I’m wearing today:

I kept Klainie out way longer than I expected to but she’s probably rockin’ a few cute new dresses this week because of it. You are welcome for no sleep and new dresses, Klainie.

Last night, I didn’t necessarily feel like running but after slacking all weekend, I needed to get my butt in gear.

Mile Pace Incline
1 10:00 warm up .5
.50 mile  9:41 .5
1200 x2  (3/4 m)  9:41 .5
1000  9:23 .5
800 x2    (1/2 m)  9:05 .5
600  8:49 .5
400 x2    (1/4 m)  8:34 .5
400 10:00 cool down .5

Total miles: 5.75

If you know me personally or have read my blog longer than 2 days, I think you can guess what happened between the random first half mile and the actual speed work. I hate to ruin a surprise, but it rhymes with looping.

I walked 200s between each set, mostly because I didn’t feel like I could run them. The run felt pretty awesome except for the end part where my right heel starting killing me. The new shoes I ordered cannot come in the mail soon enough. If I don’t get them, I’ll have to run 14 miles Saturday morning in my Asics and those start to suck at mile 7.

Touché.

I like my runs at the gym because I watch shows I would never otherwise watch, like the new 90210, and learn things I never would have known, like how Kelly Lynch is still acting and hasn’t changed her hair in 20 years.

I also broke my bad movie streak with not one, but two good movies. Over the weekend, hubs and I watched Idiocracy.

It’s an older movie, 2006 I think? I mean, it’s stupid. But it’s funny.

And last night, we were up until 1am watching The Fighter.

Amy Adams was great and Christian Bale was ahh-MAZE-ing. It’s crazy how buff he can get for American Psycho and then dwindle down to nothing for The Fighter and The Machinist. Love him. Even though he’s an ass.

What actor do you love that seems like a total dbag off-screen?

Any movies you won’t watch because of a certain actor? (Anything Sean Penn does off-screen makes me want to punch him, so it’s hard for me to want to stare at his stupid face for 2 hours in a movie.)

2.75 Miles Short of a Long Run

Tonight was my tempo run, but for some reason I went to the gym thinking that if I felt good enough, I could just do my long run. Then I wouldn’t have the thought of getting it done weighing on my mind all weekend. Since my running group doesn’t meet this weekend, it’s inevitable that I will be worrying about when I can get it done until it is actually done. I guess I’m just a worrier.

(If just one of you gets that, then I’m a happy girl.)

Once I got on the treadmill, I was feeling pretty good. It’s amazing what a Vampire Diaries rerun, air conditioning, and eating 3 cookies, and Ice Dream, and a cauldron of Haribo Raspberries can do for a run. Here’s what it looked like:

Mile Pace Incline
0.30 Walking warm up .5
1 10:00 .5
2 10:00/9:49 split .5
3 9:49 .5
Pooping Moderate 0
4 9:49 .5
5 9:41 .5
6 9:31 .5
7 9:23/9:14 split .5

Total miles: 7.25

If it wasn’t for my “break” after mile 3, I would have finished those last couple miles and known why Elena didn’t turn into a vampire after all.

But it was getting so late and I didn’t want to be at the gym until 10:30. So, I guess I’ll have to try again this weekend which I was hoping to avoid.

By the way, I’m extending my streak of terrible movies. Hubs was actually willing to finish Rango when I reminded him of all your blog comments. So we put in another movie that was borrowed from a friend.

After 45 minutes of this movie, we turned it off and wished we had finished Rango. I also wish I had 4 hands so I could give it more thumbs down.

A Good Run

I missed my workout on Monday evening because I had to work late. I never work late. So when I do I get really irritable about it. You made ME work late one day this whole year? HOW DARE YOU workplace that has been nothing but good to me for the past 8 ½ years!  Plus, missing workouts just makes the day worse because it does not mean I make better food choices because I won’t be burning calories that day. It’s the exact opposite. I workout; I eat well. I don’t workout; I polish off the box of graham crackers with frosting and wash it down with some vodka.

Yesterday, my jaw was killing me all day. I have to wear a night guard every night while I sleep because I grind my teeth. And I’m not talking a light grinding where it’s “recommended” that I wear a night guard. I discovered I grind my teeth when I was 17 and the grinding woke my mom up in the middle of the night. No joke. My grinding was loud enough to wake up a sleeping, old woman.

Speaking of my mom, she’s even older today. It’s her birthday. Happy Birthday Mama Bird!

Since I was 17, I’ve chewed through 5 night guards. I can’t use the rubber ones because they last about 6 months until they are so destroyed I can’t wear them anymore. So I have to get special porcelain ones made at the dentist. They require impressions and being sent away to labs and fittings once they come back in. So, they cost $500 each. They are not covered by insurance, and I need them if I want to not have chalky white nubs in my mouth.

(source)

Dentists have told me that I need stress management. Well, since then I have changed shitty, stressful jobs, changed living situations, changed shitty, stressful boyfriends, and started working out and I still grind my teeth. I’ve even tried acupuncture. No dice. It’s what I do and it sucks.

Every now and then the grinding at night makes my jaw sore during the day and the soreness gives me a headache. The reason I’m telling you this is because it almost made me not go to the gym last night. Running either makes it worse or makes it better and I never know which one it will be until I get on the treadmill.

Well, I did make it to the gym. I did my speed run that wasn’t that speedy because I was afraid to piss off my legs even more after those 20 miles on Saturday.

Here’s what it looked like:

     8 x 800 (1/2 mile) at a 9:13 pace.  (.5 incline)
    Total mileage: 6.10

The run felt pretty good AND it cured my headache! Ahhh…finally a day I can not bitch about running. Thank you running for reminding me you do something other than make my ass sore and give me blisters.

This weekend, our long run is 10 miles. I never thought it would be a relief to run 10 miles. But it is. Because running 20 miles sucks. Unless you’re crazy. Since it’s a holiday weekend, it’s considered an “on your own” weekend with my running group. My group still gets together, but I’m sleeping in every day this weekend and doing my long run on the treadmill. Marathon training is really taking its toll on me and I need a break from the early mornings.

In random news, my in-laws bought Rango and loved it.

They hate all animated movies. In fact, neither one of them can stay awake longer than 30 minutes if one is playing. Not even Pixar can melt their cold, lifeless souls.

Well, Hubs and I borrowed the movie because we keep hearing great things about it and because we couldn’t believe they would like an animated movie. Has anyone else seen this? Because we couldn’t really get into it. It’s not particularly funny or cute. The first 20 minutes were pretty bad, then it got a little better after that but we only made it 45 minutes in. Is it worth finishing? Or is the first half just like the second?

RanGowatchsomethingelse?  (You think that joke is lame now but you’ll use it one day and thank me.)

Don't Be Afraid To Save Your Money

I finally saw a few movies this weekend. I feel like I’m going through some kind of movie withdrawal. I love movies and I used to see one every weekend and now it seems to happen every six months.  What exactly am I doing that I don’t have time to go to movies? I have no idea. Now when I do see them, they suck. It’s making me angry.

We just got back from seeing Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

I had high hopes for it because Guillermo Del Toro did the screenplay. He did The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth, which were both awesome. This one was like a serious Gremlins. So, if you’re into that (which I’m not) and think it’s worth $20 (which I don’t), you might like it.

On a good note, Katie Holmes was pretty good in the movie. She didn’t do any of her annoying Joey-esque mannerisms that get under my skin, so I might be able to take her off the list now.

You get cool points with me if you can guess that movie.

We also watched Priest on-demand.

I don’t even know what was going on in the movie most of the time but it was all sorts of ridiculous. This movie has taught me that you can throw 2 large stones in the air and use them as “stairs” to propel yourself higher to get over the abyss you just jumped over. Awesome.

I’d like to give special thanks to my hubs that added the eyeballs to that picture while I was away from the computer.

Also, I do not get the Paul Bettany heartthrob thing. So chicks actually dig him? I mean, it’s cool that he scored Jennifer Connelly for a wife but other than that I’m not seeing it. He’s like Daniel Craig for me. Bad ass in some movies but not particularly good looking.

Now it’s almost time for True Blood, which is also disappointing me. I know I’m not alone in thinking this. Had I known how mediocre this season was going to be, I would have waited for DVD instead of paying for HBO. I am so ready for Eric to stop being a total pansy.

I’m ready for Lafayette to have a storyline that has something to do with anything, and every time Tara almost dies, I’m disappointed she doesn’t. Her character has sucked since Season 2.

Ok, I’ll stop complaining now. Smile Only because it’s time to go watch True Blood. Yeah, I know I said it’s not so good but it’s also a train wreck I can’t seem to quit.

What’s the worst movie or TV show you’ve seen lately so I can not spend $25 on it?

Go See #TheChangeUp

Last night, the hubs and I went to see a sneak preview of The Change-up.

Hubs found free passes on a table at our gym so he snatched one up.

If you don’t already know, the movie is about two best friends, one is uber-successful and married (Jason Bateman) and one is a pot smoking out-of-work actor who never finishes anything (Ryan Reynolds). They both wish they had each others lives while out drinking one night and when they wake up the next morning…they do.

Oh, and Olivia Wilde is in it. She looks so hot in this movie I forgot I was heterosexual.

Too late.

I’ve gone to a bunch of sneak previews in the past and this is the first one that wasn’t sold out. I was surprised but it was also nice not to share an arm wrest with a dude 4x my size.

The interesting part about this sneak preview is we didn’t see the version that will be released to theatres. It was a preview to see what audiences thought so the movie could be changed before it’s released. So music could be changed, or a scene could be added or deleted.

Hubs and I both thought the movie was hilarious and touching. We were worried at first because there was an opening sequence with a baby and computer animation that was so stupid we thought we going to hate it. Luckily, the rest of it was great. That scene was just so out of place with the rest of the comedy. I liked it as much as Horrible Bosses. Hubs liked Horrible Bosses better but still thought it was great.

Oh, and Jason Bateman has a scene where he is 95% naked, so all you JB lovers out there have that to look forward to.

So, go check it out and let me know if they keep that first scene in the movie. Smile It comes out August 5th.

Are you seeing any movies this weekend?

Things That Happened This Weekend

Besides the wild party Friday night, the body fat percentage win on Saturday, and the great run Sunday morning, here are the things that happened this weekend.

Hubs and I liked Red Star Tavern so much the first time, we went again and took some friends. Food happened.

The most amazing Greek Chicken Sandwich happened (topped with spinach, tomato, goat cheese, tzatziki, black olives, cucumber, and puppy souls). Also, eating that sandwich so fast I forgot to take a picture until it looked like a huge steaming pile happened:

At Gators, my first salad with fruit on top happened.

Note #1: Normally, I hate fruit on salads but today I was feeling saucy. Or fruity, I guess.
Note #2: Raisins and Craisins are not fruit. They are “happiness beans.”

Finding the one thing I will leave my husband for happened:

Try it. You won’t want your husband anymore either. Anyone know where I can find that stuff so I can make it legal? (Oh, and don’t say Trader Joes because we don’t have one here.)

Cake Batter frozen yogurt with Oreos, brownie bites, and cheesecake bites happened. Twice.

Movie watching happened:

Movie ratings at their finest, right there. I think they should do that with all movie posters so we know what were getting into. Oh, and there totally were strings attached.

Reading happened:

Bangs happened:

Asking my husband to take a picture of me happened:

I like how I look like I’m either being drawn into the light or probed.
The third one is the “probed” one. I’m all smiles for that.

Do you like fruit on salads? (I’ll admit, I ate most of the Mandarin oranges seperate from the salad (and dipped them in the hub’s apple vinaigrette). I’m still not used to salads being sweet.)

The Inventor of Sprints is the Devil and Other Random Stuff

I made it to the gym this morning! I got my tired ass out of bed at 5am, brushed my teeth, and arrived at the gym by 5:15. Too bad today is Tuesday, cuz that right there is a Monday Mini Miracle.

On today’s training plan: sprints. Nothing says, “you will never be a fast runner you loser” like a good sprint. Here’s what the workout looked like:

The whole workout totaled 5 miles. I wanted both “rests” to be light jogs, but that second one turned into a walk because I was so winded. If I wanted to be that winded, I would take up smoking again.

Seriously, that was a tough workout. I don’t know if it was because it was in the morning, and I typically work out at night, if it was because I was tired, or because I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. Or all three.

*************************************

Now for a couple random thoughts because I can’t put together one coherant post:

Does anyone watch Master Chef? The arrogant kid that won one of the challenges last night annoys the crap out of me. I want to punch him. Bad.

Right after he makes me dinner.

He also totally reminds me of Michael Pitt, who I HATED on Dawson’s Creek. And hated in Murder by Numbers (top 10 worst movies ever for me) and hated in Funny Games (don’t watch that one either).

Ugh. They even have that same smug look.

Good point.

Hubs and I also watched a French zombie movie called The Horde last night.

It was good! It’s not a lighthearted zombie flick. And I didn’t love the ending. At all. But overall, if you like that type of movie, you should check it out.

We also watched Due Date.

And by watched, I mean we saw the first 30 minutes, hated it, and turned it off. RDJ – why did you do me like that?

Oh that’s right. Nevermind.

I bought these Candies shoes from Zappos years ago.

I don’t love them like I thought I would but I was also too lazy to return them at the time, so they sit in the closet and wait for my once a year inspiration to wear them. That day has come my friends. I’m wearing them today. And now I remember why I haven’t worn them more in the first place. They are loud when I walk. Honestly, they sound like flip-flops if flip-flops could flip and flop into a megaphone.

Does that even make sense?

No one asked you.

Hopefully the shoes won’t distract people from the dress I’m wearing today. Because I love it. 🙂

On the agenda tonight: martial arts fitness class (yep, this is my double workout day) and hubs said we might go to bed early!  < —— I’m sure excitement over that is a sign of old age.

Also, some random questions for you:

1. If you use disposable razors, how often do you dispose of them? (I can use one of those puppies for a good 3 months before I replace it. My friend K told me she uses a new one every time she shaves. This blew my mind!)

2. When you wash your hands, do you put soap or water on them first? (I do soap. Hubs does water. Which of course gets water stains all over the sink when he goes to get the soap.)

A Day Full of Nothing

I’ve done nothing productive today. Nothing. I’ve taken 2 naps, haven’t cleaned anything, and surprisingly I’m not too upset about it. Smile

Last night, the hubs and I stayed in and didn’t drink alcohol like good boys and girls. We finally watched 127 Hours.

Honestly, I’ve had that movie at home since the beginning of May. Why do I have Netflix again if I never watch the movies?

Anyway, if you don’t know already, it’s the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston who became trapped by a boulder on one of his climbs. He uses his own means to survive – including drinking his own urine. James Franco plays Aron and I thought he was really good. But I’ve got me a soft spot for James Franco.

And now you do too.

Yum.

I thought the movie was just ok. I knew the ending to the story, so it made the content of the movie seem insignificant. Hubs thought the movie was slightly more interesting than drinking your own urine.

Then this morning was a 10 mile run with my training group. 4:45 wake-up call says what?

Next week we meet a half hour earlier. So if you think I look haggard in this week’s picture, I’m sure next week will be a treat.

Tired, puffy eyes.

The run turned out pretty good. I met a girl, Holly, that I ran with for most of the time. Chatting with her really helped me get through the run because I was so tired. The humidity was almost too much for me to handle today.

We ran by a bunch of rude houses flaunting their awesome in our face.

Those houses had a water view too.

Seriously, have you ever run by houses like this? The people that own them pick up their newspapers really slowly so you know it’s their house.

At mile 8, I tried some different fueling. A Cliff Shot in Razz flavor.

So gross. I could only choke down a little over half of it. I’m so jealous of you runners who can take these. It would make my races so much easier. The only thing worse would be drinking my own urine.

The Clif Shot didn’t give me any stomach problems the last 2 miles but I still had issues when I got home. Although the run was hard, my pace really improved from last week.

Distance: 10.11 Pace: 10:15 average
(I didn’t stop the Garmin for our 1-minute walk breaks every mile, but I did stop it for the 3 water stations.)

  • Mile 1: 9:51
  • Mile 2: 10:12
  • Mile 3: 9:32
  • Mile 4: 10:36
  • Mile 5: 10:23
  • Mile 6: 10:36
  • Mile 7: 10:39
  • Mile 8: 10:49
  • Mile 9: 9:32
  • Mile 10: 10:30

On tonight’s agenda:

Should be interesting. Smile

I Love BJs

Yesterday was a good day. 🙂

After the Hubs got home from work, we went to dinner at BJs Brewhouse (Birthday Girl’s choice).

We got almost exactly the same thing as last time because it was so amazing and we didn’t want to screw up a good thing. I forgot my camera, so please excuse the reuse.

We had Chicken Lettuce Wraps as an appetizer:

Creole Tilapia for the main course.

And the Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Pizookie for dessert.

(That’s a pizza cookie by the way, and if you haven’t had one before, run don’t walk to BJ’s and get one.)

I was a little worried about the walnut part of the dessert since I hate them, but I couldn’t taste them at all. It was DELICIOUS. Like, TOO delicious. We ate half the dessert and then walked out. 😦

After dinner, we went to see X-Men: First Class.

It was really good and I loved how it tied into the other X-Men movies. I could nerd out on the different actors in the movie, like Jennifer Lawrence as Mystic and how I think I’m going to love her in The Hunger Games now. Or how one of the actors was the same chick from Bridesmaids and Insidious…but I won’t.

Ok, I will.

The only thing that annoyed me is how much James McAvoy did this:

We get it. You’re using your powers and the ole finger-to-the-temple signifies that. But really, did you have to do it ALL the time?

Speaking of, I love me some James McAvoy. Is it the accent? Is it the blue eyes? Is it the fact that if I saw him at a bar, I’m pretty sure I could hit that? I don’t know.

Now, I’m back to work. It was so nice having a day off randomly in the middle of the week. Now just two more work days till the Katy Perry concert on Thursday. 🙂

Who do you love that’s not an obvious heart throb? (Besides James McAvoy, I love Topher Grace. I’m sure Michelle will remind me of the others I love in the comments. Hee.)

What’s your favorite comic book movie? (X-Men 2 hands down. Hulk is second – the first one with Eric Bana, not the Ed Norton one. Dark Knight is probably 3rd for me. Don’t judge my placement of Dark Knight. This is my blog! 🙂 )
