Monday Mini Miracles

It’s that time of week again to find the good in Monday. Besides the fact that it’s almost over, of course.  So here we go:

1. I had a good hair day.

This is a miracle because my hair gets nasty fast and I have not been taking a shower the mornings before work for awhile now. I hate showers. I’d wet-nap myself every morning if I could get Hooters to give me enough of them.

Note: I mistyped “Hooters” as “Hookers” twice. Do they have wet-naps? (There’s a dirty joke in there somewhere, isn’t there?)

2.  Rob Schneider is coming to the Orlando Improv in a few weeks and hubs agreed to go with me.

Good thing he said yes because I would have bought tickets anyway. And no matter what anyone says, The Hot Chick and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo are good movies.

3.  Tonight, the hubs and I did the Spartan workout with the personal trainer again. I took 10 minutes off my original time!

So, even though I gained 2 lbs. this week  and didn’t really cheat on my eating plan, I’m going to pretend that’s 2 lbs. of muscle. Or a gigantic poop.

I’m also going to pretend you are easily entertained by three year old jokes like me. Smile

4. I haven’t had a movie to look forward to in a long time. Until Now.

Charlie Day and Jason Sudekis? That’s movie gold right there. GOLD I tell you!

I know you all are probably thinking, “that’s not the Harry Potter poster.” Well, I’m TWO movies behind on Harry Potter. I’ll catch up with the rest of the world eventually.

Tomorrow I’m going to try to get to the gym in the morning before work to do the speed workout on my training schedule. That means waking up at 5am which I’m not thrilled about, so we’ll see how it goes.

Monday Mini Miracles

It’s a little early on Monday to have Mini Miracles already, but eh…I’m feeling miracly! So, let’s do this. 🙂

1.  My Garmin started working again. (Holla!)

I took Momjovi’s advice and searched online for a fix. I tried to reset the watch (I have the 405) by pressing both side buttons at once. The watch displayed a horizontal line that would fade when I released the buttons, which seemed common from online postings. Still dead. Then, the dumbest advice I found online worked.

“If nothing works, leave the watch alone and try charging it the next day.”

Uhh. Yep. That worked.

In a fit of happiness, I promptly made out with it.

2.  I bought some items at the store yesterday that I have never purchased in my life: asparagus, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp. The shrimp is frozen, not fresh, so don’t get too excited.

Last night, I mentioned to Hubs that the two things I wish I could do well is dance and cook. That is completely influenced once a year by So You Think You Can Dance and Master Chef. So, I bought some things to try my hand at cooking since it sounds easier than learning how to pop n lock. What am I going to do with this stuff? I have no idea. Also, I have never had a Brussels Sprout in my life. I hope they don’t suck.

Note: This cooking thing should pass once True Blood comes on and I want to be a vampire. <—–life controlled by TV

 3.  I bought a knife sharper than a butter knife.

I plan to cut Peeps with it (the marshmallows, not my friends). I need to make them last since I only have 5 left. Gotta ration them like I’m stranded at sea with only one bottle of water.

Also, I plan to hold it like this.

When I hold knives, I appear in letterbox and gain 4 chins.

I suppose I’ll also use that knife to cut butternut squash and make my super tasty butternut squash fries. I really need to get a nice set of knives for the kitchen so I can actually cook something. And stab intruders.

What’s something easy I can do with shrimp, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus? (I have chicken at home too.)

Monday Mini Miracles

Workout (this morning): Ran on treadmill 4 miles (40 min), walked .60 miles (10 min)
Workout (tonight):  Weights with our Crossfit trainer.

I ate and ate this weekend because I didn’t have to worry about gaining weight since the Rapture was happening. That turned out to be a major disappointment because I wasn’t raptured at all. RUDE.

Now I have to keep looking at that big, red -59 in my Weight Watchers plan.

Have I mentioned I’m not doing too well on that?

Ok, besides two Cocoa Pebbles incidents, I did fairly well with the eating part. That negative number is pretty much all alcohol.

Now, on to my Monday Mini Miracles.

1. I got up and worked out this morning. And it’s a Monday morning at that. I was pretty happy with myself, thankyouverymuch! I think I’m subconsciously preparing for those early mornings during marathon training.

2. Bangs.

They are covering up my jacked-up chemical peel face today. Lips are partially blue because I just ate frosting.

3. Chuck was renewed for Season 5 – which will be the final season. LOVE that show. And love me some Zachary Levi. Meow.

4. Supernatural was renewed for Season 7. I wasn’t too excited about this at first because the show wasn’t as good this season as it was the last five seasons. But, the finale was really cool, so now I’m looking forward to it. Plus, these guys are hot.

Jensen Ackles (Dean) is my on my list of future husbands. If you’re reading this, Jensen, I can bump you up the list if you give me a call.

5. My in-laws put mulch in my flower bed today (Get your minds out of the gutter). I can’t wait to see it!

Monday Mini Miracles

Awhile back I mentioned that I wanted to get all the weeds out of the flower bed in front of my house and plant new flowers. Over the past 8 months or so, the flower bed went from looking like this:

To this:

I don’t keep things alive well, which isn’t good news for my bunny.

I decided to put some Weed and Feed in the flower bed and start fresh. When I used Weed and Feed at our last house, it killed ALL the grass. Um, I thought there was the “Feed” part in there?

I decided since Weed and Feed did so well killing my entire lawn the last time, it would be great way to start fresh with my flower bed. Well, this time the “Feed” part decided to work.

Awesome. My grass is dead everywhere now except for the one place I don’t want it.

Now I am determined to start “Operation: Please Don’t Die Lawn.” I am going to water the lawn, which I hear is great for keeping it alive and I’m already in the process of killing the new “grass” in the flower bed with weed killer I bought over the weekend. I will have a pretty lawn and flower bed dammit.

That brings me to my Monday Mini Miracles:

1. I bought actual weed killer this time.

2. I’m back on track with my eating today. Let’s just say I didn’t do well this weekend. At all.

See that –74? That’s bad.

My best friend asked me if I made that negative number red myself or if Weight Watchers does that. Oh? You’ve never gone negative before?

Yeah. Weight Watchers makes that red for you. A bright, shining beacon of your weekend failure.

3. The hubs brought me my favorite salad from Hummus House for lunch today and he remembered the pickles. Since pickles are my new obsession on salads, this made for a very happy me.

Have you ever Googled “pickles?”

Allow me:

Any advice on how to plant flowers, kill weeds, and make your lawn look magnificent without actually putting any work into it or spending money?

Expired Food and Monday Mini Miracles

Last night, I was eating a Morningstar corn dog and slathering it in spicy mustard when I noticed something:

I thought 2 things:

  1. Wow, I’ve had that mustard a long time. I hope I don’t get sick.
  2. I’ve already eaten half of the corn dog with it. Might as well eat the rest!

My husband is SUPER weird about eating anything expired or close to expired. He says it’s my fault he’s so sensitive about food now because I flipped when I found out his family used to order pizza and keep the leftovers on the kitchen counter for 3 days and still eat it on the 3rd day. *shudder* Now, he won’t even touch left overs if they are over 1 or 2 days old.

Well, I decided to do some investigative work. If the mustard is expired, what else do I have that’s expired?

If something expires in the same year that you are living in (banana peppers) does that mean it’s really expired? I’m thinking no.

By the way, this is just the things I grabbed quickly. But when I started moving things around, I found this:

Yeah, it’s just mac and cheese, but that date has to be there for a reason right? I get rid of clothes I don’t wear for 3 years, I don’t know why it’s so hard to get rid of 3 year old food.

Anyway, now that I have that expired food thing off my chest, I can get to Monday Mini Miracles.

**********

When I decided to start Monday Mini Miracles as a regular blog post, I was having an awesome Monday. Finding the good in today is proving much more challenging. So let’s get to it.

1. There was cake in the kitchen at work again. I did not have any, even after Becky IMed me specifically to tell me it was delicious. You know what else I didn’t have? This stuff…

All of that is sitting at my desk right now. I assure you that the package with the two missing peeps came that way.

2. Hubs says I need to drink more water. Or more specifcally, he says I’m really great at pounding 3 huge glasses of water in one sitting but I need to space it throughout the day. So today, I had 3 glasses of water at work…sipped throughout the day.

3. I ate really well today. I considered leaving this off the list since the day isn’t over and Hubs brought home 3 packages of Peeps. They are the chic Peeps too. We all know the chics taste better than the bunnies.

What’s your Monday Mini Miracle? My Monday Mini Miracles were kinda lame but today was lame. So, I know you have to have something better than me.

Do you eat expired mustard, soup, salad dressings, crackers, mac and cheese? What is your expired food limit? (I think I’m pretty leniant on things like pancake mixes and sauces. I found a pretty old bottle of Taco Bell hot sauce I’m still thinking of eating…)

Monday Mini Miracles

This is going to be a new weekly segment for me (I think). Mondays suck and I’m going to find the good in them some how. Every week. Dammit. So, here is my first post of Monday Mini Miracles.

1.  I was in a good mood all day at work for no reason. This is a miracle because a) it’s Monday and b) I’m never in a good mood at work.

2.  There were 2 large drool-worthy cakes in the kitchen today at work. One looked to be Oreo upon close inspection. I did not have any cake. Nor did I check the empty box afterwards for the “frosting circle” that people leave who don’t appreciate cake. Miracle.

3.  I wanted to run all day today. Probably from all the Boston coverage. I haven’t wanted to run in well over a month. Miracle.

4. I ran. (6.1 miles, 59 minutes, 9:41 pace)

I went to Lake Underhill Park, my usual spot for night time running because it’s decently lit and populated. It’s nice to listen to music while I’m running instead of feeling like I’m going to get jacked.

The weather was way too humid for me (which makes it harder for me to breathe) so I’ll take that pace. Miracle.

Oh, I didn’t wear underwear either.

Yes, my shorts have built in underwear but I’ve never gone all “free bird” before.

Can’t say I loved it. I get really sweaty and I like that extra layer that really makes me feel like I’m carrying a load at the end of my run.

One more shot for the road.

5. Even though the scale was (way) up after a fun weekend of Peeps and beer, I didn’t care. I always care. Miracle.

6. I bought more stuff. Not so much a miracle as an “identified problem” but eh…it makes the list cuz I say it does.

I wanted a brown belt and I didn’t find one in the specific color I was looking for at the mall yesterday, so I found one online.

After the brown belt, this happened:

And this. It has sequins and I’m easily distracted by shiny things.

And this. It’s pink. I buy pink stuff. The end.

Thank you, Old Navy. I wasn’t sure what to do with my tax return.

So to make a long story short, nothing special happened but it was a good day. Smile  Now I’m off to take a shower. I hear Cougar Town is new tonight and I’m SO ready for it to be back!
