The Eyes Have It

Remember awhile ago I posted about winning a full set of eyelash extensions in a raffle? Well, yesterday I had them done! (If you aren’t into hearing me ramble about eyelashes, move on my friend. But please come back!)

I headed over to the Magnolias Salon and Spa in Winter Park for my 3:00 appointment.

One I arrived, I was immediately taken upstairs and given some paperwork to fill out. (I love arriving for appointments when they look like they expect you to walk in the door – that was this place.) The paperwork asked all about allergies and products I currently use on my face. There was also a waiver to sign in case you go blind. (Just kidding. Sort of.)

The appointment for the full set of lashes took just over 2 hours.

The cost: $300.

Yeah, I can’t believe I won this in a raffle either.

Every 2 weeks or so, you need to get fills for the lashes. Those cost $60. I guess you can think of it like getting your hair highlighted. It takes maintenance.

Here are the before and after pics:

When the appointment started, I laid down on a massage-type table. Kit, the lash stylist (and owner of the business), started by taping my lower lashes down so they aren’t confused with the upper lashes while they are being applied. Then, my eyebrows were taped back so they were out of the way. My eyes were closed the whole time after the taping.

Side Note: I did not like my eyelashes being taped down. I am super sensitive about things being around my eyes and it felt weird. You know how something feels annoying but it doesn’t hurt? That’s the only way I can describe it.

Then Kit went to work lash by lash, applying an extension to each one of my individual lashes. My right eye was watering so much that she had a reapply a new adhesive to keep my lower lashes down. That sucked.

After the appointment was over and the tape removed, it was a relief. I was so happy to have the tape off my face. And then, it felt like I had nothing done. The lashes immediately felt like they were natural – and still feel that way.

Each full set comes with a nifty little care package for the lashes.

It includes eyelash brushes, under eye gel patches, facial cleanser, mascara safe for extensions, and lash swabs (which I think you use for cleaning the lashes).

Kit was really great. She tells you what she’s doing before she does it so there are no surprises.

If you’re in the Orlando area and you are looking for something like this, I would definitely recommend her. Kit and I chatted the whole time which made it more bearable to lay still with your eyes closed for over 2 hours.

(By the way, Kit just ran her first half marathon in December…and she loves to talk about running. Score! She told me my lashes would cross the finish before I did tomorrow in Melbourne. Can we put d-tags on lashes? Smile)

Kit is a busy lady, so if you want to make an appointment just know you’ll have to wait about 2 weeks to get in. (She’s looking for an employee now – know anyone looking for a job with experience?)

So, what do I think? I think my lashes look great. I don’t leave the house without mascara on and now I don’t need it. My friend, Kristianna, said she thought I just did my makeup really well when she saw me.  But I guess that’s the point. You want them to look natural and good, right? Or if you don’t…there are all types of lashes you can have applied.

Like these!

Ok, not those.

For me, the maintenance to keep them looking their best might be too much for my schedule. It’s a hassle for me to get my hair highlighted every 6 months, much less get touch ups for an hour every 2 weeks. So, I’m still undecided whether I’ll keep going back. Or if I do, for how long. I do know I can’t wait to wear makeup again and see what they look like then. 🙂

Over all, if you have the time and money, I would definitely recommend it.

What do you think of the before and after pics? Has anyone else ever had eyelash extensions?
