Will Power

Last night, I went to the monthly Central Florida Lady Bloggers meet up. Michelle picked me up after work and we headed to Baldwin Park.

Now that I’m making an attempt to be a good girl and not the town drunk, it worked out well that we all met at the Uptown Park Wine Bar. No temptation there. Nope. None.

About 10 ladies showed up this time and we all sat around chatting and laughing. I really tried to make a conscious effort in taking better quality pictures but somehow I ended up with three of these.

Did I mention I wasn’t drinking? Oh, I did? Well, everyone else was enjoying frosty beverages. They looked horrible. And by horrible, I mean delicious.

I missed out on a black cherry cider that everyone was drooling over and I even missed out on a group mango sake bomb. I don’t like mango flavored anything but I’m pretty sure I could have made an exception.

Then I may have tweeted about it.

The good news is, you were all really supportive of my non-drinking with your encouraging responses.

The three of you are going to be my new best friends once my pants fit, ok?

Anyway, we all had a good time as usual. I love all these girls. Seriously, if you are a blogger and haven’t been to a blogger meet-up, you need to find one or create one in your own town. They are so fun. Unless you’re in Orlando of course, then come to ours. 🙂

Afterwards, a few Michelle got late dinner at a sushi restaurant next door. And guess what? I didn’t drink all night.  *cue oohs and ahhhs*

I’m coming for you work pants in my closet. And you’re gonna zip whether you like it or not.

An Early Mexican Mother’s Day

A lot of plan rearranging went on this weekend. Besides moving our plans to see Bobby Lee from Saturday to Friday, we also switched Mother’s Day breakfast (with the in-laws) on Sunday to Mother’s Day early dinner on Saturday.

Does anyone feel like their weekends are more stressful and jam-packed than their weekdays? I do. This weekend I have had a love affair with Sugar Free Red Bull.

Since my MIL and FIL are perfectly happy doing the same thing everyday (sitting on the couch) and eating at the same restaurant three times a week (Sweet Tomatoes), the hubs and I decided we’d pick the place for our dinner.

I’m not kidding about Sweet Tomatoes. The employees know them by name and they love every minute of it. It’s like a horrible episode of Cheers, except neither of their names is Norm.

Our choice for dinner: Colibri in Baldwin Park.

Hubs and I have been eyeing Colibri for about 2 years now. We have a habit of seeing new places we want to check out, reminding each other to remember those places, and then forgeting the next morning. This is one of those places we couldn’t remember…for 2 years.

Colibri is a cute little Mexican Restaurant with a great view of Lake Baldwin.

Because we arrived at 4:00pm, the restaurant wasn’t very busy. The service was also really slow which was a bit disappointing. So, while we waited for our food, I made the in-laws model for me. You have no idea how hard it is to get a picture with them both looking normal. It always takes 3-5 pictures to get it right.

Enter into evidence: Eyes closed.

FIL talking at the last minute.

And finally, the cute shot I was waiting for.

Gratuitous shot of me and the hubs since it’s my blog and I like plastering my face all over it.

After our photo shoot, hub’s appetizer arrived. I don’t remember what it was called, but it was a mixture of shrimp, celery, and mango and was the thing my nightmare’s are made of. I don’t do mango. Unless it’s this Mango.

Everyone else liked it, though.

Hub’s had the Pescada de la Plancha which was AWEsome. (Mahi-mahi, grilled veggies, and white rice that could rock your pants off like a Def Leppard concert.)

I ordered the chicken fajitas, which I’m pretty sure is the Mexican equivalent of ordering spaghetti at an Italian restaurant.

Good. But I wouldn’t order it again. I would however, try out Colibri again. They had some $3.50 margarita specials that I’d like to get my hands on.

Tonight we’re off to see Kylie Minogue at Hard Rock Live. I think there’s another Sugar Free Red Bull in my future.

What did you do that was special for your mom today?

Stretching and Sushi

With all the Ke$ha talk, I haven’t had time to mention Saturday day. Hubs and I had an appointment with Michael (our Crossfit trainer) for a workout. After the workout, we got to talking about stretching.

Confession:  I never stretch. Ever.

Michael went on about the benefits of stretching and why it’s so important. I mean, I know it’s important and I should do it. I just don’t. When he heard this, he did a long series of partner stretches with us. I went first and then the hubs.

Well, NOW I know what they mean by “hurts so good.” The stretches he did on us were so uncomfortable but afterwards I felt like a wonderful puddle of goo. So this week I’m going to finally buy a foam roller and start stretching like a good girl. On a side note, he had us do so many flutter kicks (400) , leg raises (100), mountain climbers (400), and sit ups (100) that it’s hard to stand up right now.

After Crossfit, Hubs and I went out to lunch at Seito Sushi in Baldwin Park.

The inside is much more contemporary than the one in Winter Park Village. We liked it a lot better.

Looks empty, but most people were sitting outside with their dogs like this little guy.

Look at Hubs here looking all cute. (And having no idea that I’m dragging him to Ke$ha two nights in a row.)

I started with the Clear Broth Soup. It had crab, mushrooms, seaweed, and tempura flakes.

I didn’t care for it, so I had a few bites and gave the rest to Hubs. (He liked it.)

Then we ordered a few appetizers. Hubs had the crab cake which came out looking so pretty you almost didn’t want to eat it.

Hubs also had the Steamed Shrimp Dumplings. Total yum.

And I had the Beef Negimaki. Also yumtastic.

The food doesn’t stop there. We each ordered a Spicy Volcano Roll, I had a Lava Roll (a California roll with scallops on top), and Hubs had Salmon nigiri.

Isn’t the Volcano Roll cute? They put red fish roe (?) on top to make it look like it’s the top of a volcano. Presentation at the Baldwin Park Seito is way better than the one at Winter Park Village.

Everything was really good. We hadn’t been out for sushi in a LONG time.

After lunch, we walked around to see if we could find a yogurt place. There was one within about 50 feet of where we were but we walked in the complete opposite direction.

We walked back to the Seito Sushi area to try out Delish, a self-serve frozen yogurt place.

This place was properly named in case you were wondering.

I’ve never been to a self-serve place before. OMG. I was missing out.

They have little cups so you can sample the flavor before you make your cup. I tried out the Pistachio flavored yogurt. It was good, but had a strange after taste.

I went with the Birthday Cake and Red Velvet Cake flavors. (Next time, I’m going full Birthday Cake and kicking Red Velvet to the curb.)

There were a bunch of toppings to choose from and just when you think you’ve put all the toppings on your yogurt that you can…

…you look and there are even more toppings.

I added Kiwi, Oreos, Strawberry Bursts, Marshmallows, and Brownie bites. Next time, less fruit more cookies.

We sat on a shaded bench by the water to have our yogurt. Hubs and I loved Delish and are ready to go back. It was a nice afternoon. Smile

How often do you stretch? (It’s ok to yell at me in the comments for not stretching after all this time.)

Do you eat raw fish? (I used to eat spicy tuna rolls but I had a food poisoning incident that I’m sure was from sushi and now the thought of raw food makes my stomach churn.)
