Five for Friday

1.  I’m gonna call it. The weather in Texas is better than the weather in Florida.

You hear that, Cely? I thought the weather was perfect during the three weeks I was there. I had to wear a jacket at least three of the days and then layed out in the sun after that to a clear, sunny sky with a cool breeze. I mean, Texas has indecisive weather and gets three months of total suck during the summer that is way worse than Florida, but then it’s over. The cold fronts from the West actually get to you and then you suck it all up and leave Florida in perpetual summer for 10 months of the year. You are rude, Texas. Learn to share those cold fronts.

2. I checked out my Daily Mile and realized there’s not much to do in Killeen.

I’m on a running break for the most part and still managed 84 miles in three weeks. Most of those miles were walking (so I could read books – I’ll tell you about those later) but still, that’s a lot of miles. I don’t think I ever hit 40 miles in a week during marathon training. I mean, I still gained 3.5 lbs during that three weeks. The will to eat crap 24/7 in Texas is a strong force that my inner buffet-lovin’ fat girl just can’t fight.

3. I registered for my first race of next season.

I’m running the Celebration Half Marathon. It’s super cheap ($50), about a half hour away from home, and brand new. This year, I’m really looking forward to running some new races. I’m getting tired of repeating the same ones year after year. So, no full marathons for me yet, though my next (and maybe last) full is going to be Chicago next year. I still have to consult with my personal marathon therapist about that decision. 😉

4.  Speaking of running, I got that fast mile I’ve been working on up to a 7:47 pace last night! It was hard, but I didn’t feel like I was going to die afterwards. I think working on a fast mile has really helped my HIIT runs. This week, and for the first time since February, I was able to do an entire HIIT run without walking and I was back up to my 7:30 interval time. (I had to drop to a 8:00 and 8:30 pace.) So nice to get some speed back!

5. I watched The Office finale last night.

Soooo good. I loved it. Even hubs agreed and said he was happy to see a series finale that didn’t suck for once. It was cute to see what a difference even a crappy office job made in all their lives. I know some people hate The Office, but I’m totally gonna miss it. I loved it with and without Steve Carrell and I’m seriously going to miss everything about Jim.

Oh, and lastly, if you want to read Michelle’s sweet birth story, check it out here. It comes chalk-full of adorable pics of baby Evan and things said about her uterus and vagina that I will never be able to un-read.

Have a good weekend everyone. Smile

I was looking into the Celebration half, I am in Orlando for business a lot and love running in Celebration. The cute surreal cookie cutter houses and good lighting for those runs in the dark are a lot more fun than being stuck on the treadmill in the hotel gym. But when I looked at fb page for the race it’s chock full of angry residents who hate the idea of the race and were doing all thy could I put a stop to it. Anyway, maybe they have accepted it now but I don’t like the idea of locals throwing eggs at me while I’m huffing and puffing through the 1/2. But if you are running it I might reconsider so I could meet ya in person 🙂
Hey, what’s up on the boob front? The first time I read your blog it was about ‘the girls’ and I shared all my fantabulous advice and personal insight. But haven’t heard anything in awhile.

    • Paula

I did hear that about the residents of Celebration. Maybe if the eggs are refrigerated, it won’t be so bad. Could cool us off? 🙂
Ah yes, “the girls.” I went to another consultation of someone I liked even better but didn’t write about it since it was basically the same thing as the first appointment. Decided to go with him and have them scheduled! Still freaked out about it though but I guess I’m throwing caution to the wind here.

  2. I would like to come to Chicago and cheer for you and drink beer whilst watching you run. No more marathons for this girl. Or at least not until after I have a baby. Heh.

    • Paula

You are welcome to cheer us on in Chicago. No beer though. Not until after I’m done running and can have one too. That’s just mean. Feel free to bring your fictional baby.

  3. I would just like to point out that I live about 5 hours south of where you were. And those five hours make all the difference because I think I wore a jacket exactly once in the past year. It’s going to be almost 100 degrees tomorrow and I think I might just take a long walk off a short cliff. I think we both live in shitty weather situations and need to find a way to win the lottery and move towards the friendly climate of California.

  4. Chicago is so happening in 2014 – and Melissa and her fictional baby better join us! Even if it’s just for beer.

At least there were no pictures of the birth, so it’s nothing you can un-SEE.

  5. Jen

I can’t wait to watch The Office finale. I have loved that show since the beginning and will really miss it, especially Jim.

  6. Jenny

I’m going to miss The Office so much! I haven’t seen the finale yet because I’m in Cali visiting my mom and want to watch it with P. The weather is so freakin’ perfect here. It makes me despise NY so much more. I even bought a Powerball ticket in hopes that I don’t have to go back. 😉

    • Paula

I’m going to buy some tickets too! And you know, it’s more likely that you’ll win when you’re out of state. That is fact. One I came up with in my head. But still fact. Maybe you and I can share that 600 mil jackpot. I’d definitely run Chicago THIS year if I won! 😉

  7. That is an impressive number of miles 🙂

I think if I travelled to the US and in particular Texas I would gain so much weight. My boyfriend and I went to Hawaii in January and I put on 2kgs in 3 weeks because we just ate so much crap but it was tasty and delicious and I regret none of it 🙂

    • Paula

Hawaii is another fat trap that I love! I went there on my honeymoon and came back 3lbs heavier. There was one day on my honeymoon when I actually had two DQ Blizzards for breakfast. I wish I was kidding. (The banana cream pie blizzard is so much better there than on the mainland.)

      • I feel like I missed out we didn’t go to blizzards! We did do Tony Roma’s ribs twice though but we also missed out on the Cheesecake Factory as they had a fire and were shut. I guess we will just have to go back again 😉

  8. I secretly love birth stories. I also usually like watching random medical procedures and asked for a picture of my (deformed) uterus, so there’s clearly something wrong with me. I’m going to go read that story now.

  9. I think the advantage of Texas weather over Florida is less humidity. I don’t know how you Floridians handle that. And now that I’ve moved to El Paso (aka the desert) I’m a humidity wimp.

  10. Super impressed by how many miles you logged during your trip. I’m hoping to do at least 50 a few times between running and biking this fall.

Also, Ohio has some fun, new races for you. I know Melissa has was possibly thinking of coming up here!

    • Paula

Oh, tempting. And I haven’t run that state yet. I might have to get with her about that and invade your home!

  11. I loved The Office finale. I cried like an idiot. I might need to consider drinking mid week to deal with my stress to avoid things like this. 🙂

    • Paula

I cried too. I’m such a sap with those things. We definitely need to consider drinking more during the week. Booze solves all problems. 🙂
