About once a year, I get in the mood to throw everything of mine away. It’s strange, but I go through phases when suddenly I hate everything I own, which also makes me want to buy all new things.
It started earlier this week when I decided to Spring clean my nail polish bins. Yes, that is plural.
This is only a glimpse of how girly-girl I really am. And to this girl who said she only owns three bottles of polish, I do not know how you even live.
When I woke up this morning, the Spring cleaning continued. I decided to get rid of anything in my closet that I haven’t worn in a year. If I haven’t worn something in that long, that usually means I don’t like it, it doesn’t fit, or…it’s a jacket. *sniff*
The closet cleaning turned into a big floor pile. About half of that will make it to Goodwill and I’ll wimp out and keep the other half. Still, I don’t know how it’s possible to take that much stuff out of my closet and still have no extra room.
Compounded on top of the Spring cleaning and wanting to buy a bunch of stuff I don’t need, I also feel the need to re-decorate. It’s like I want to do everything so I try to do it all at once even though I don’t have the time. So basically I start a bunch of projects and don’t finish them. It’s really frustrating.
Today, I thought it would be a good idea to start a DIY project for my bathroom. I went to Michaels to get the materials for the project but ended up buying Halloween tealight bobbleheads instead.
They are so cute! Apparently I get distracted easily. I would have bought the vampire bobblehead too but the lady shopping next to me took the last two. Who needs two? Honestly. < —- bitter, party of one
Anyway, I have to work tomorrow, which means I won’t have a lot of time, but I’m going to do my best to break the vicious cycle of starting projects and not finishing them. I hereby declare that I will finish that bathroom project and I will clean up that Goodwill pile. Now I’m off to Joann Fabrics to get what I didn’t find at Michael’s. Hopefully I won’t come home with a garden gnome.
Are you a pack rat or do you get rid of everything? (I get rid of everything. I can’t stand clutter. Hubs has other ideas on that one.)
I am constantly making my husband get rid of things. I hate clutter! And if you think three bottles of polish is crazy you would be shocked that I only own one! I think my eight-year-old niece has more…
In the process of purging as we speak. Tempted to go into my bedroom with several trash bags and throw everything out. Just live with a couple of outfits, 4 pairs of shoes, a bed, a pillow and linens. Resisting urge, barely
It is tempting! I think I just secretly want to see everything clean and getting rid of stuff is the only way to do it.
Holy goodness that is a LOT of nail polish! I thought I was bad, and I have about half of that.
This reminds me, however, that I should do a good closet cleaning now that the weather is changing. Well, I am hoping it will change.
I do the same thing–feel like I want to get rid of everything and get all new stuff. I say I’ll get rid of it but then don’t because as soon as I usually get rid of something then 2 weeks later I wish I had it. Blargh!
I used to be a clutter lover. Then I met Ryan the neat-nick & he changed me. Well, I guess I changed him too. Now he keeps more junk & I keep less. But we still go on binges every few months where we get rid of everything we own, only to start collecting a bunch more junk. (Seriously, you’re totally right. No matter how much stuff I get rid of, there’s always *just as much* when I’m done.)
i am constantly getting rid of things, I really don’t like stuff. I think it’s a good and bad thing…sometimes I’m missing papers that I probably need because I threw them out
I agree! When my husband can’t find something, he always asks if I threw it out first. tee hee
I have never seen so much nail polish in my life! I thought the 10-15 bottles I have were too many, but now I feel that perhaps they are not enough.
That’s true. You need more. Especially since there are two girls in the house now.
I love getting rid of stuff! I feel so productive and clean. Rumor has it that Ulta has an OPI polish sale going on right now: buy 2, get 1 free!
You are so evil. But I like it.
Holy Guacamole! You have a ton of nail polish, woman!*
I only have two bottles of nail polish haha. You have enough to entertain a whole middle school aged sleepover!
Ha! I like how you went the “middle aged sleepover” route instead of the “own your own salon” route.
i get rid of EVERYTHING, actually to a fault. I am the person that everyone is scared to be when they pack they overpack so they wont forget something or wish they had it. I actually underpack and then im like dammit! I wish i had that with me…. haha
my bf is the opposite and he tries to keep everything.
your nail polish looks like mine. i need to clean out again!
I only ended up getting rid of 15 of them. I’m pretty sure my nails are never the same color twice in a year. 🙂
You have more polish than a nail salon! I want to come over for a mani….looks like you have fun colors to choose from 🙂
My motto is, ‘when in doubt, go without’….this goes for shopping, leftovers, men (when I was dating!), and cleaning & purging old stuff. I go thru my clothes every season and donate. Or my friends and I will clean out our closets and then hold a swapping party. One friend’s old purse is now my new treasure!
I best friend always cleans out her closet and gives me her stuff. I love it! I used to do the same for her but she’s a lot thinner than me now so I basically just give her shoes now. 🙂
That is a LOT of nailpolish. I also only have about four bottles… I feel ashamed.
I used to be a big pack rat when I was growing up. I would save everything and my room was rammed with shit. Now I am pretty minimalist and tend to get rid of everything. Except books. Still a big pack rat when it comes to books. Oh, and jeans. I have like 8 million pairs of jeans and I only wear about four pairs of them.
And guess who doesn’t work today? Yeahhhhh for Canadian Thanksgiving!
I’m a jean hoarder too! I have 3 pairs that I wear. I took EIGHT pairs to Goodwill yesterday. Those are just the ones I was willing to part with. I have a ton that will sit in my drawer forever and get no love.
I did a ton of cleaning this weekend, too! I’m a neat freak and I hate clutter, but my hubby has some pack rat tendencies (his parents are both really bad). We have a giant storage room in our basement that was WAY too cluttered so we got rid of tons of stuff over the weekend – and it feels so good! Hubby has even admitted he’s starting to want to be cleaner/less cluttered, so that made me extra happy. Only took 7 1/2 years of marriage and 9 years of living together to get to this point.

I love to get rid of things too! Like you, I cleaned out my closet recently and was also dissapointed that there was no extra space after throwing some things out and putting others in a Goodwill bag. SIGH.
I LOVE nail polish. I only have 15 bottles, but they are all OPI and I have a hard time not buying more, so I stay out of Ulta. My fave coworker has a collection like yours!
