Friday, hubs and I went to Universal Studio’s Islands of Adventure for the day.
We had a free pass that expired at the end of this month and I’ve been wanting to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I’m not really a Harry Potter fan but I do like the movies and plan to read the books sometime before I turn 70. Or 80.
Also, I’m one of those people that live in Orlando but never go to the parks. I don’t like most things Disney, I haven’t been to Islands of Adventure in at least 10 years, and I’ve been to Universal once in the past 10 years that I can remember (not including going for concerts).
Once we got into the park, my bottomless pit husband had to make a food stop.
I wasn’t hungry so I watched him eat a burger longingly and open ketchup packets. (The burger was fast food, but it was GOOD.)
After lunch, we went on a ride while we waited for our friend Tyler to arrive.
I had been on Spiderman before, so it must have been there for over 10 years? You get to wear some pretty sweet night vision goggles for the ride.
Modeling contract. SIGNED.
Tyler arrived right as we were getting off the ride, so we headed over to the Harry Potter area.
We all went on the Harry Potter ride, which was actually really fun. I don’t know why I thought it would be lame.
The wait was 45 minutes (we don’t have fast passes) and I thought that was pretty decent for a new ride. Plus, it gave us time to catch up with Tyler.
Finally on the ride!
After the ride, hubs tracked down the butter beer.
Butter beer is AWEsome. It tastes exactly like crème soda and has real whipped cream on top. I don’t even like whipped cream and I wanted to rub that stuff all over my body. Get one. It’s worth it.
After butter beer, Tyler and I went on Dueling Dragons (hubs doesn’t do coasters), which is now called Dragon Challenge and a part of the Harry Potter area. Only a 5 minute wait! Say whaaa? That’s crazy talk right there.
I would have cropped that dude out but I like his face too much. I feel the joy of Universal in his eyes.
We got front row. 🙂
They have a red and blue coaster, which used to be called Fire and Ice but I don’t think it is anymore. Anyway, if you can’t decide which one to go on – go for blue. It’s the best one.
We picked an awesome day to go. The park wasn’t busy at all. I know it looks busy from the picture, but it wasn’t.
We hit up the Dudley Do-Right water ride on the way out.
Seriously? Dudley Do-Right? Who remembers that?
Then we walked over to Universal Studios for a little bit, had some dinner, and saw the Horror Makeup Show, which was actually really cute and funny.
And then Tyler and I went on the Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster.
We got the front seat on that one too.
By the end of the day, the park was about 30 minutes from closing and we were tired from walking around in the heat for 6 hours so we called it a day. I had a lot of fun and it was nice catching up with Tyler too.
Do you ride roller coasters? (LOVE them. I once rode one 5 times in a row, just to the point where I thought I was going to throw up. Then I stopped.)
What’s your favorite amusement park? (Great America in Chicago for me. But I love Busch Gardens in Tampa too.)
