That Weekend When I Moped

Thursday, I started coming down with a nasty cold. I would say that within four hours, it went from a sore throat to a full-on congested, coughing, sneeze-fest. It should be noted that Thursday was also my last day of antibiotics for a sinus infection. In case you were wondering if you can get sick while on antibiotics…

I know. I’m amazing like that. So basically, I’ve been miserable all weekend and have stayed awake long enough only to 1) mope 2) complain about how miserable I am and 3) check the Veronica Mars kickstarter page.  < —- obsessed

Ok, I did one other thing. Hubs and I had tickets to MegaCon on Saturday (we also went last year). I love going for the celebrities but walking around for five hours takes it’s toll when you’re on your deathbed. I wore my Garmin because I was curious how far we walk whenever we do go, but it lost satellites inside the convention center. That dang Fitbit pedometer would have come in handy then. Although, my Garmin did register 2.5 miles just for the walk to the car and back, so that’s something.

While we were there, we got to meet Michael Hogan, which was really cool.

If you know who Michael Hogan is without looking him up,  your Geek Card has been renewed for another year!

Then yesterday, I almost didn’t feel well enough to go for my metabolic testing but I really hate rescheduling appointments. So I went and it was…interesting, I guess. But that’s a whole ‘nuther long post, so I’ll tell you all about that when I’m back to feeling like my normal, sassy self.

That Night I Watched Four Movies

The weekend started out like this.

And let me tell you, I needed that. Well, I probably didn’t need six of them.

I had one of those super long weeks that would.not.end, so I met up with the bestie (we go way back) for some drinks on Friday night.

I hadn’t seen her in forever. Or two months, which in best friend time is definitely forever.

Then I spent Saturday watching an obscene amount of movies. Hubs and I started with Battlestar Galactica Blood and Chome.

This was a Web series that aired in segments each week and it was put together as one movie on DVD. I was a big BSG fangirl so it’s hard for me to watch these little off-shoot movies because I was so invested in the TV show characters that I can’t bring myself to care about new ones. But I still liked it. Really good production value for a Web series too.

Then we moved on to Sinister.

This one is from the producer of Paranormal Activity and Insidious so we wanted to check it out. It’s an interesting story and pretty creepy, but the last shot of the movie went for a cheap scare, which well, cheapened it. Also, why does Ethan Hawke keep walking by light switches and not turning them on? YOU WILL SEE BETTER. The lights work fine. But no, go ahead and just use the light from your cell phone or that miniscule flashlight. I mean honestly.

After Sinister, we lightened things up a bit.

I really thought I wasn’t going to like this movie about 20 minutes into it. Most of the game jokes were over my head and I was not loving the sequence in the Hero’s Duty game. Luckily it got way cuter and not even Sarah Silverman could keep me from liking it – which is fortunate since we bought this one instead of renting it.

After Wreck It Ralph, it was getting late. We wanted to watch Argo but we’re not big “thinkers” late at night, so we dumbed it down real good.

Technically not a good movie and definitely the worst of the series, but I love Mila and I love Resident Evil and I love people running by big clocks. Soooo, I didn’t hate it. Let’s just leave it at that.

Alright, that’s really all the excitement I got for today.

The Other Stuff

With all the birthday talk going on, I’ve completely forgotten to talk about all the other meaningless stuff in my life. So let’s do that, shall we?

1. HBO – Got it

I’ve been telling myself for a year that I wasn’t going to watch this season of True Blood because the last one sucked so bad. Plus, Alan Ball (the creator) left and that’s never good news for a show when someone that pivotal leaves (I’m looking at you, Supernatural). Then I contemplated if $17 a month is worth it for the next 3 months and just when I decided it wasn’t, I gave in 5 minutes before the season premiere.

I’m not even sure I liked the season premiere. I officially don’t like Sookie and they’re making Jason a complete p-whipped idiot when he was much more entertaining as just an idiot. But it seems like Tara might get interesting (for once) and as long as Alcide hangs around, there’s something to look at.

I am not a big fan of beards or mustaches, but I am a fan of him. Mmmm…6’5″.  Also, I just found out I am 6 months older than him. So that means I can add him to my future husbands list and it wouldn’t be weird.

In the meantime, I’m getting my monies worth by catching up on season 2 of Game of Thrones.

2. Workouts – Did it

I’ve been eating a lot but I’ve been working out a lot too. On Friday, I did a workout that had me limping by Sunday. I did 150 low squats with 65 lb barbell and then when my trainer saw that was “easy” for me, he added another 50 with 75 lbs. Pretty sure that last 50 was a real bad idea.

On Sunday, I decided to go to spin to “loosen up my legs.” Note to self: spin does not loosen up your legs. Luckily, I felt 60% better yesterday and able to do this workout.

This one is really good cardio and it seemed to go by really fast once I got used to the motions to get to each exercise. Make sure to roll one way into the supermans for the first 25 sets and roll the other way for the second 25. It took me about 25 minutes.

Oh, I’m on Daily Mile now if you wanna be my friend, by the way. I mostly remember to add my workouts after I do them and you’ll definitely see them there before I post them on the blog.

3. Prometheus – Saw it

Alright. I didn’t like it. And I normally love these types of movies. Aliens is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time even though I’m not supposed to be comparing the two because Prometheus technically isn’t part of the Alien franchise.

It started out s.l.o.w and by the time it picked up, it just wasn’t enough for me. Plus, there were so many ridiculous scenes that I just couldn’t get into it. I also did not like the cast and didn’t give a shit if they lived or died. So there were a lot of things working against it for me. With that said, hubs loved it and he’s convinced that if I watch it again, that I will like it more.

4. New email icon – Scored it

Now when you look for my email address on the left sidebar of the blog, you’ll see the most adorable thing ever.

5. Flying roach – Killed it

Hubs and I went out to dinner with my in-laws on Friday. For some reason, the conversation lead to pest control and I mentioned that since we’ve been in our new house (almost 2 years), I’ve never seen a roach.  < — foreshadowing

Enter Sunday. I’m watching True Blood and I see a roach hauling ass on the wall. Hubs tries to swat at it to knock it down so he can get close enough to kill it when it starts flying all over the place. I hate roaches but flying roaches are the things of nightmares. Why would anyone think that wings on those things are a good idea? My God, what next??

It seriously became this 15 minute ordeal of searching for a flashlight and then bug spray. Then we lost him and couldn’t relax until we found him. It was ridiculous. I cannot handle bugs with superpowers.

So that about covers everything else about the weekend. Tonight I plan to test out my new running shoes (yay!) and catch up on Hell’s Kitchen and Master Chef. I love me some Gordon Ramsey.

Things I’m Loving Right Now

Happy Friday everyone! First, I’ve been loving all your comments lately. You guys are hilarious about what annoys you at gyms. I especially love the comments that said I looked good in this picture. I’ve decided to have that one copied, framed, and hung in every room of my house. Maybe I’ll even mass-produce it into pillow cases and give them away as presents to my friends. I hope that’s not creepy.

(Seriously, thank you. You all are sweet.)

And second, I’m having a good day for no reason, so I decided to love on some random things. So here are the things I’m loving right now.

1.  Someone already found my blog this morning by searching “watch running porn race” and “lady beard.”

2.  My day of bad eating is behind me. And let’s face it, I’ve done way more damage in a day, so candy, cheeseburger sliders, fries with ranch dressing, and one donut isn’t that bad in comparison. At the end of the day, instead of feeling like crap, I kept thinking how awesome that donut tasted so I wasn’t too broken up about it.

3.  These two songs on the way to work this morning:

Florence + the Machine “Heavy in Your Arms

Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Down Boy

4.  Shorter days at work. (I work nine hour days to get every other Friday off. The Fridays I do work are 8 hour days, and that hour makes a huge difference.)

5. Good hair days. I cut off most of my head but I think blogger points should be assessed for using the self-timer.

6.  I’ll be seeing Bobby Lee Saturday night at the Improv. Anyone remember him from MadTV? The dude is crazy funny.

This picture gets me every time.

7.  I’ll be seeing this girl Saturday night for her birthday/going away party.  She’s moving to South Carolina. :-(

8.  I’ll be seeing this girl in concert on Sunday night.

Don’t think I forgot your past, Kylie.

Does anyone remember when The Locomotion was popular? (If you don’t remember the song, know that you are young, beautiful, and probably born in the late 80s, unlike myself.)

Something tells me she won’t be doing that song…

Oh, and one thing I will not be doing this weekend.

I don’t even think Natalie Portman can save that movie.
