Monday Mini Miracles

It’s a little early on Monday to have Mini Miracles already, but eh…I’m feeling miracly! So, let’s do this. 🙂

1.  My Garmin started working again. (Holla!)

I took Momjovi’s advice and searched online for a fix. I tried to reset the watch (I have the 405) by pressing both side buttons at once. The watch displayed a horizontal line that would fade when I released the buttons, which seemed common from online postings. Still dead. Then, the dumbest advice I found online worked.

“If nothing works, leave the watch alone and try charging it the next day.”

Uhh. Yep. That worked.

In a fit of happiness, I promptly made out with it.

2.  I bought some items at the store yesterday that I have never purchased in my life: asparagus, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp. The shrimp is frozen, not fresh, so don’t get too excited.

Last night, I mentioned to Hubs that the two things I wish I could do well is dance and cook. That is completely influenced once a year by So You Think You Can Dance and Master Chef. So, I bought some things to try my hand at cooking since it sounds easier than learning how to pop n lock. What am I going to do with this stuff? I have no idea. Also, I have never had a Brussels Sprout in my life. I hope they don’t suck.

Note: This cooking thing should pass once True Blood comes on and I want to be a vampire. <—–life controlled by TV

 3.  I bought a knife sharper than a butter knife.

I plan to cut Peeps with it (the marshmallows, not my friends). I need to make them last since I only have 5 left. Gotta ration them like I’m stranded at sea with only one bottle of water.

Also, I plan to hold it like this.

When I hold knives, I appear in letterbox and gain 4 chins.

I suppose I’ll also use that knife to cut butternut squash and make my super tasty butternut squash fries. I really need to get a nice set of knives for the kitchen so I can actually cook something. And stab intruders.

What’s something easy I can do with shrimp, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus? (I have chicken at home too.)

      Roast your brussel sprouts! So good. Cut them in half, put in a bowl, mix with about 1-2 tsp of olive oil and sea salt. bake at 350 for about 10 min and then turn and bake another 10-15 min or until tender. enjoy.

  2. I can’t eat asparagus because I hate the way it makes my pee smell. True story. TMI???

      This is an important TMI because it’s true! I hate when I eat some and forget I had it, and then use the bathroom and YUCK. I can only eat it every so often for this reason.

      • Yes! I avoid it sometimes for the same reason. And it’s not like it even takes awhile to get in your system. It’s all…BAM! next pee!

    Yay that your Garmin is working again!!!

    Not sure of a good way to cook asparagus because I’m not a fan of it and don’t eat it. However, brussels sprouts are one of my favorites. I just cut the bottom off a bit (so there’s none of that dirty part on it anymore), halve them vertically, throw them in a bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a little bit of chili flakes. Then I roast them in the oven for about 40 minutes at 375 or so. Yum!

    The shrimp can be simple too – just some salt, pepper, and oil and saute them in a pan for something like 4 or 5 minutes. Et voila! Dinner!

  4. I will have to get exact details from the wifey but she mashes the asparagus after it’s cooked or from the can, cooks it with an egg, sugar, and vinegar. It’s goooood.

    Rationing Peeps? Now THAT’S control. I don’t think anyone from the row has been around to see the next day once they’ve been opened. (And that’s why I’m fat.) 🙂

  6. Grill the asparagus, saute the shrimp and serve with a little olive oil and garlic in some pasta. Take the Brussels sprouts and tossed them – they are nasty.

      HA! I was going to suggest the same thing about the brussel sprouts. That’s the easiest thing I can think of to do with them. 😉

  7. Hands down — best way to cook asparagus is to lightly coat it with olive oil and sea salt and either grill it (best way!) or roast it in the oven. Put it high — 375 or 400 for about 15 minutes (but keeping watching it and turning it). You want it almost crispy. Delish. That’s actually how I cook brussel sprouts too (in the oven) but for those I’d go up to 425. Get them almost burned. Yum!

    For the shrimp, that’s who I buy them frozen too because I think Publix’s fresh shrimp tastes soapy. I mostly use them in stir frys! Easy!

    Glad the Garmin is working again! You know, that may be how we got it working too after the rebooting didn’t work for us either. But my memory can’t be counted on!

      I’m with Jackie…roast that asparagus! The only thing I add that she didn’t mentioned is lots of freshly-ground pepper. I’ll never eat asparagus any other way than roasted or grilled! Enjoy!

  8. My mini miracle is that I’m still awake! I’m SO sleepy!!!

    I have no idea what to suggest for brussel sprouts b/c I’ve tried them several times and still hate them. Sad! However, I did try a recipe this weekend that included asparagus and shrimp (and pasta!) and was super easy (ok, I’ll admit, Michael made this for me BUT he did say it was super easy and I believed him).   11. I’ve never had brussel sprouts either but my husband loves them. I like asparagus though…
    and shrimp? really?! love it, so good! just put some butter and you’re good to go.

  13. Mini miracle is that I made it to work today for an 8 am meeting. I was only 15 minutes late, and that’s a serious accomplishment after my weekend.

    Hmmm…my Monday Mini Miracle is that I actually made it to work early this morning. I am alwayyyss late on Monday because I’m so depressed when I wake up that the weekend is gone, I just can’t seem to get out of bed!

  17. Asparagus is one of my favorites! I love to cook in the oven at 350 with a little lemon juice, olive oil and pepper. Keep an eye on them and cook them just enough so they still have a crunch to them. Enjoy!

  18. It’s weird to make out with your Garmin? ummm… mine gets kisses when it says I ran faster than I thought. I figured this was normal?!?

    I need to get new knives too… I about took out a finger this Christmas with a Ginzu (however the heck you spell it) knife, they really aren’t as sharp as the commercial. One the one hand it was good cause I got to keep my finger but on the other I told hubs, see, it’s not that sharp.

  22. Bacon + brussel sprouts + cream = yummy. Do it. Then go run 5 miles.

    Shrimp and asparagus stir fry. Or saute them and add some broth and noodles. Noodle bowl. Chez toi.

    My Garmin is frequently finicky lately. Constant charging seems to be helping for some reason. If I’m not using it, it’s on the charger.

    I didn’t read all the comments, so you may already know this…but brussels taste like tiny cabbages. Also they taste like awesome. Roast them.

    You can make Pasta with asparagas and shrimp..lemon would probably be good with that combo. 🙂
