Holiday Weekend Calories Don’t Count

I don’t think calories count in other ZIP codes either. Or, maybe I’m getting that one wrong. Anyway, I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful weekend. My weekend was fun and busy.

Getting back on the wagon is awesome the first day. It’s just all the days after that suck. So, I made a plan. I wrote out my workout schedule for June, which will look a lot like my workout schedule through October.

3 days marathon training:

  • Tuesday morning: Short interval/speed run
  • Thursday morning or night: Short interval/speed run
  • Saturday: Long run with my new running group

4 days strength training:

  • Monday night: personal trainer
  • Tuesday night: Martial Arts Fitness class
  • Wednesday night: personal trainer
  • Friday night: personal trainer

For those of you keeping track, that’s 7 workouts in 6 days with Sundays off. Unfortunately, it’s the only way I can get all my runs in and still strength train and go to my Tuesday night fitness class. I love it and don’t want to give it up. That schedule will fluctuate a little bit here and there, but I’m going to try to stick to it. I may drop one personal trainer session after the in-a-bikini-around-other-hot-chicks-at-the-beach date, also known as July 16th.

Ok. I really don’t know how I’ll maintain that workout schedule, but I’m going to try. So if you see me tweet or Facebook about wanting to go to happy hour instead of working out, you need to stage an intervention.

  2. They’re the same as vacation calories. Everything is free! 🙂

    I try to get in at least 6 days a week, with one of those days being a yoga/stretching day because I won’t do it at all otherwise! I will definitely kick your butt for skipping workouts! Get ready!

  3. I just finished my training schedule last night, and I have 5 days of workouts planned. Friday is an off day, and Sunday is listed as off OR recovery run / XT. Having Friday off will probably be tough for me bc I’ve grown to appreciate the “escape” from work at lunchtime. But we’ll see.

    Love your two a day workouts – you’re going to get some killer results! Mental note: harass Paula when she skips workouts. Done! 😉

  5. I was working out 3 times per week but now that I am retired from running :-), I am going to try 5 times a week if the old schedule permits.

    Cupcakes and beer along with drinking John Daly’s? *insert Data from Goonies voice* Shame, shame, know your name. 😛 (A John Daly is basically an Arnold Palmer but with alcohol in it 🙂 )

    It’s all good though and it can be tough during holiday weekends. I actually fought through and was good for once in my life. Found out I lost 9lbs yesterday after the first week of the new diet.

    • Holy crap. Congrats! That’s amazing! Now I feel like a slacker with all my cupcake/beer consumption. And yes, now I know those sugary yumtastic drinks are John Daly’s. Twitter is a beautiful thing. 🙂

        Trust me, the workouts you do keeps you from slacker status even when you eat the treats.

        Oh and by the way, did you know that if you put alcohol into an Arnold Palmer it’s called a John Daly?

  6. While I was training for my half, I worked out/ran 6 days a week with usually the Friday night off. Now that it’s over, I am thinking of still running 3 times per week plus cycling and strength training mixed in.

    Ps- holiday calories totally don’t count!!

    I work out six days a week for a total of ten workouts. Well that is when I get them all in. 🙂

  11. I usually work out about 4 days a week. I find that if I work out more than that, I get burned out and then it goes down to one day… Yikes!! Your training looks intense but it looks like you are mixing up it a lot which will help keep things interesting!! P.S. That cupcake looks ridiculously delicious!!

  13. I’m on your plan. Calories don’t count in other zipcodes. I have a long list of other times they don’t count…..on your birthday, at weddings, on holidays, when you have your period, when you’re really hungry, etc….
    I so agree, that first day is all sunshine and roses when you are like “oh yay, I love vegetables and chocolate barely seems appealing!”. Then reality hits and you can’t wait until calories don’t count again.
    Can’t wait to read about your marathon training! Hope you love your running group as much as I do (a creepy amount).
